Looking Back, Moving Forward
The View from Beyond Seventy
a memoir
I have always been fascinated by stories and history, since I was four and listened to family tell tales at the dinner table. As a teenager visiting Europe and Israel, I met people whose stories expanded my understanding. I wrote in my memoir about the challenges they faced and what personal characteristics saw them through hard times.
Twenty-five years of teaching taught me about children. Giving birth to my own daughters was the most exciting experience of all. As I continued to write vignettes, I contemplated a larger work as a family legacy.
When I turned seventy, I started to write the seminal moments that comprised my life with the idea of a collection for succeeding generations. Remembering one thing led to another. Looking back, I realized that I had the strength to move forward, to face the challenges of aging, to survive loss and changing relationships, and to look forward toward another rewarding quarter century.
